1. About Otherwise
Otherwise (“we”, “us”) runs otherwisebook.com, an online book of small creative exercises. You can read the lessons, generate images from your own ideas with AI, keep a private collection and share work with the community.
By creating an account or using the site you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service. You can reach us at support@otherwisebook.com.
2. Your account
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. Give us a real email address, keep your password private and tell us if you think someone else has used your account.
You are responsible for what happens under your account.
3. Plans and limits
Visitors without an account can generate 3 images in total in the first 3 lessons. A free account includes the first 3 lessons with 2 images in each.
A paid subscription ($17.99/month) opens every lesson and includes 25 images per lesson in each billing period. We may also apply fair-use limits per network address and per day to keep the service available for everyone. Limits and features can change; we will not reduce what you have already paid for during the current billing period.
4. Subscriptions and payments
The subscription costs $17.99/month in US dollars, billed monthly in advance, and renews automatically until you cancel. Local taxes such as VAT or sales tax may be added at checkout depending on where you are.
Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns, and its Checkout Buyer Terms apply to your purchase.
You can cancel at any time from your profile (Manage subscription). Cancelling stops future charges, and you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.
If we change the price, we will tell you in advance and the new price applies from your next billing period.
5. Refunds
Our Refund Policy at /refund explains when you can get your money back. It forms part of these Terms.
6. AI-generated images
Images are generated by a third-party AI model from the text and settings you provide. Results can be unexpected, inaccurate or similar to other outputs, and we cannot guarantee that an image is unique or suitable for a particular purpose.
As between you and us, you may use the images you generate for your own purposes, including commercial ones, to the extent the law and the AI provider’s terms allow. You are responsible for checking that your use does not infringe anyone else’s rights.
Do not use the service to create unlawful, hateful, sexual, violent or deceptive content, or content that infringes someone’s rights or depicts real people without permission.
7. Community posts
When you publish a work to the community, you keep ownership of it and give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display and distribute it on Otherwise, including in the community feed and in our emails, for as long as it stays published. You can remove your posts at any time.
Other people can report posts. We may hide or remove content, and suspend accounts, that break these Terms or the law.
8. Acceptable use
Do not abuse, overload or attack the service, bypass limits or bot checks, scrape it at scale, resell access, or try to access other people’s accounts or data.
9. Our content
The lessons, text, design and software of Otherwise belong to us or our licensors. You may use them for your personal creative practice, but you may not copy, republish or sell them without our permission.
10. Availability and liability
We work to keep Otherwise running, but the service is provided “as is” and may be interrupted or change. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before it. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under mandatory consumer law, or liability that cannot be limited by law.
11. Ending your use
You can stop using Otherwise at any time and ask us to delete your account at support@otherwisebook.com. We may suspend or close accounts that seriously or repeatedly break these Terms, and we will refund any unused part of a paid period if we close your account without a breach on your side.
12. Changes
We may update these Terms. If a change is significant, we will tell you on the site or by email before it applies. Continuing to use Otherwise after that means you accept the new Terms.
